Many teachers struggle to help clients feel their deep core engagement. In this second article on Stretch-eze® in The Core, we dive into how the Stretch-eze® solves that problem—by creating active, intelligent resistance your clients can immediately connect with. Check out the first article, Stretch-eze® for Support if you missed it or are new to the Stretch-eze!
As you press outward, pull inward, or stabilize against the elastic feedback of the band, your muscles are constantly working. The Stretch-eze provides three-dimensional resistance, awakening deep core stabilizers and diagonal myofascial slings that often get missed in traditional training.
This multi-directional loading mirrors the principles of biotensegrity, where the body’s structure depends on continuous tension and discontinuous compression. When the Stretch-eze® wraps around the limbs and torso, it distributes force through the fascial network rather than isolating single muscles. The result? Strength built from the inside out—elastic, responsive, and structurally efficient. Clients feel not only stronger, but more connected and effortlessly supported against gravity.
As we continue our exploration of the Stretch-eze, we have hand-picked a few wraps and dynamic Pilates mat exercise to showcase how the Stretch-eze builds strength safely, while still feeling supportive and playful:
- Inside Reins is an excellent way to hold the Stretch-eze when doing the Single straight leg stretch. As the legs lift and lower, you can twist through the arms to create a beautiful flow. The torso spirals and energizes the legs. The wave of movement from the supported feet to the center of the body allows the fascia to unwind naturally.
- The Sari Wrap invites a cross-lateral connection through the body when side bending. The Stretch-eze encourages an inner lift as your entire body is suspended by the fabric. For more of a challenge you can thread the top arm under the torso as you twist, and actually feel your obliques strengthening. The Stretch-eze provides tactile cues to your abdominals and spinal stabilizers to work together for full body integration.
- A more advanced wrap we’re calling the Rib-X Both Feet Wrap supports and accentuates the work in the Jackknife. The wrap fires up the diagonal slings so the Stretch-eze acts as an inner zipper from the arches of the feet all the way to the deep abdominals. The band thus guides the legs up and over the body. With the Stretch-eze, this challenging exercise becomes accessible to clients of all abilities, without compromising on the deep work happening in the fascial body.
These exercises demonstrate how the resistance of the Stretch-eze® trains the connective tissue web, building resilience and load tolerance.
The beauty of the Stretch-eze® is that it doesn’t force you to choose between stretching and strengthening. Each movement combines both—building muscles even as you lengthen them. This combination is the key to moving with ease, confidence, and vitality.
For anyone who could use a little more support and freedom in their movement, the Stretch-eze offers a meaningful gift this holiday season. And don’t miss our next piece in the New Year, “Stretch-eze on Pilates Equipment,” closing out our series in The CORE. Happy Holidays!
